I am a student at Weber State University, majoring in both political science and communications with an emphasis in civic advocacy. I plan to graduate in the fall of 2017. I am a member of Amnesty International, a global human rights organization. I am also an active student in Weber State University’s Center for Community Engaged Learning where I volunteer on a research team. I have the opportunity to work with various community partners, developing and executing research projects to help them solve problems or find answers. I am also a board member for Shannon J. Scholarship (S.J.S), a local nonprofit, which advocates for people who suffer from addiction.

S.J.S helps them with the financial costs of treatment. Our goal is to raise awareness about addiction within the community and actively work to break down the barriers of the negative stigma that is associated with addiction. Through all of my research, it has become clear that addiction is the root cause of many other social issues. It is obvious to me if you want to make a difference, one that also impacts other areas in the community, you must discover the root causes of the problem. My life’s mission is to become a voice for all those who are suffering, oppressed, and for people who no longer have a voice at all.
